La mayoría de las personas nos contactan para saber la profundidad que puede alcanzar un detector de metales. Hay muchos factores que juegan un papel en profundidad. La mayoría de los detectores de pasatiempos son VLF (muy baja frecuencia) y la profundidad depende de las condiciones del suelo y del tamaño del objetivo. Cuando se trata de detectores de pasatiempos, nos gusta decir con seguridad que el tamaño de la bobina es aproximadamente qué tan profundo irá. Por ejemplo, una bobina de 11 pulgadas generalmente recogerá objetivos a 11 pulgadas.
Los PI (inducción de pulso) son un tipo diferente de detector y le brindarán la mayor profundidad. Nuevamente, el tamaño de la bobina, el tamaño del objetivo y las condiciones del suelo juegan un papel importante, pero generalmente pueden llegar a 16 pulgadas en un objetivo de tamaño de moneda.
