I am looking to buy my first metal detector, and I think I have it narrowed down to the Quest Q30 or the Nokta Makro Simplex. I want a good all-around detector that is submersible. I saw the Q30 has a "gold" mode and we are planning a trip somewhere there is a possibility of nuggets. Will the gold mode be any better at detecting these than the Simplex? Are there any key differences in performance that would make either of these a better all-around choice, or would you recommend something different entirely (in that price range)?

The Q30 has a slightly higher frequency at 14kHz. The Simplex is an excellent all around detector that is also waterproof and wireless. I would state that if gold will be a primary target, i would look for a unit that can operate at or above 18 kHz.
