It is my understanding resistivity machines do not work as well when there is excessive moisture. How do you determine if there is too much? Also how do you figure a reading is water instead of metal?

High moisture content will decrease soil conductivity. The presence of water can allow electrical current to pass relatively freely, and the resistivity meter will show much lower values. The resistance of the current is measured in Ohms. Depending on the resistance the current encounters, you can identify different underground anomalies.
